Junior Hockey

Welcome to the Waikirikiri Hockey Junior Club

We offer junior club teams for school years 3-8 which have both a weekday training session and game scheduled by Canterbury Hockey on Friday evening (Years 3&4, Years 5&6), Saturday morning (Years 3&4, 5&6 and 7&8), or Sunday morning (Years 7&8).

We also offer a Funsticks programme for school years 0-2. This is a fun and exciting way to get into hockey - check out our Funstick page, listed under the Junior Hockey.

Key 2026 dates

Wednesday 18 February - Registrations for Junior Club open
Thursday 5 March (Foster Park turfs 4 pm - 5) - Have a Go session #1 - for new players Year 3-8.
Sunday 8 March (Foster Park turfs 12 pm - 2) and Sunday 15 March (12 pm - 2) - Junior Musters for returning players Year 3-8. These are pre-season skill sessions and to help with team allocation.
Friday 13 March (Foster Park turfs 4 pm - 5) - Have a Go session #2 - for new players Year 3-8.
Saturday 28 March - Registrations for Junior Club close.

Season Dates

Friday 1 May, Saturday 2 May, Sunday 3 May – Junior season starts
Non-Playing Dates: 29, 30th and 31st May (King’s Birthday), 10th, 11th and 12th of July (Middle weekend school holidays and 17th, 18th and 19th July (last weekend school holidays)
Friday 21 August, Saturday 22 August, Sunday 23 August– Junior season ends

Training times

Training times will be confirmed by coaches after teams are confirmed.
We aim to have teams confirmed by 11 April, so that teams can train before the start of the season in May.
Your coach / manager will contact you to arrange a training time and will be your key ‘team’ contact during the season.

Registration:

Registrations need to be in by 28 March.
This allows us time to allocate teams and work with coaches.
Note - we can accept late registrations, but these will be subject to space in a team, and it may be harder to accommodate any team / training / game day preferences you have.
