About

Waikirikiri is the traditional Māori name for the Selwyn River in Canterbury, New Zealand.The Waikirikiri Hockey Club is an Incorporated Society and was formed on 3rd November 2016. Our Logo symbolises the Waikirikiri (Selwyn) river, the sport and family.

Our club caters for players from Year 1 to Masters. In 2025 we entered 24 teams into the Canterbury Hockey Winter Compeition, including 17 Junior teams (Y3 to Y8), 3 Platinum teams (Y9 to Y13) and 4 Senior teams (18+). We ran our own Fun Sticks Program (Y1 to Y2) and extended the success of the Junior Umpire programme supporting players and coaches to develop their officating skills. During the 2025/26 summer, many of our members entered the Men's and Women's Masters tournament.

Our vision is to create healthy families in the Selwyn community through an established & credible sport club.
