The Platinum grade selection process for Year 8s differs from Junior Club.
- Waikirikiri Hockey will hold two trials in early 2026 for those interested in joining a Platinum team; each participant will receive a number.
- 3–5 independent selectors, unfamiliar with the players, will evaluate all participants.
- Selectors' evaluations are submitted to the Senior Club Captain, who compiles and aggregates the scores.
- The top 25 players from the first trial will advance to a second trial for the top Platinum girls’ team.
- The number of boys’ Platinum trials will depend on turnout.
Our current Platinum coaches are:
- U18s Platinum Toroa – John Drummond
- U18s Platinum Kotuku – Mel Wild and Greg Downie
- U18s Platinum Kuaka – Sandy Rogers
To the best of our knowledge, all current coaches are expected to return in 2026. The need to recruit additional coaches for the Platinum grade will be determined based on final team numbers.
